Branch network expansion and service access

As reported by BusinessWorld Online, Bank of the Philippine Islands has brought Gemmary Pawnshop into its agency banking network, adding 64 branches nationwide under its May BPI Dito partner store initiative.

The expansion allows Gemmary Pawnshop's 8,000 clients to apply for BPI products, deposit and withdraw funds from their BPI accounts, and make cash-out transactions. BPI says the partnership supports its push to extend banking services beyond traditional branches and bring more community-based financial access to Filipinos.

BPI Head of Retail Sales and Partnerships for Agency Banking Ritche Farinas says the arrangement broadens the bank's reach into communities, including areas as far as Masbate and Zamboanga. Gemmary Pawnshop Corporate Secretary Vince Yu says the tie-up lets the company give customers direct access to secure banking services through its retail footprint.

BPI Agency Banking currently has more than 7,000 partner stores nationwide.

Retirement product broadens employee benefits push

BPI Wealth-A Trust Corp. has also launched BPI Corporate PERA, a personal equity retirement account product for companies to offer employees as a long-term savings and investment option.

The product is designed to fit into corporate benefits programs and give employers flexibility in supporting retirement goals. Participation remains voluntary, while companies may facilitate employee access to PERA and provide additional support depending on their own benefit structures and rules.

BPI Wealth President and Chief Executive Officer Maria Theresa D. Marcial says longer life expectancy is increasing the need for retirement readiness among Filipinos. Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Deputy Governor Bernadette Romulo-Puyat says employers have an important role in making retirement saving part of employee benefits and helping workers build long-term savings.

BPI booked net income of P48.9 billion in the first nine months of 2026.

Our earlier article on SEON’s expansion in the Philippines detailed how the fraud-prevention firm is using its partnership with Exist Software Labs to broaden its client base beyond fintech into traditional banks, remittance providers, and payments businesses. We noted that rising digital payments adoption and stricter compliance expectations are increasing demand for stronger fraud controls, especially across remittance and commerce-related use cases.
