The Strait of Hormuz has been closed for around 11 days, halting a critical oil supply route.
Fefe Demeny notes that approximately 20 million barrels of oil flow through the strait each day. With the closure, about 660 million barrels are taken out of circulation per month. Demeny also points out that even if the International Energy Agency doubles its 2022 record release of 182 million barrels to 364 million barrels, this would still fall short of fully compensating for the lost supply.
