Supporting hard forks on exchanges depends on replay protection, Jameson Lopp notes
Replay protection key for exchange support

Jameson Lopp, Board Member at L’Oréal, explains how replay protection impacts exchanges during blockchain forks.

Lopp states that when a hard fork includes transaction replay protection, it is relatively straightforward for exchanges to set up the required infrastructure. However, he notes that hard forks lacking such protections present more significant challenges. Soft forks without replay protection are even more difficult for exchanges to manage.

Lopp has previously drawn attention to network security, announcing that Bitcoin Wizards would test a DoS block on the signet network to encourage enforcement of BIP-54 for improved safeguards here. He also publicly rejected proposals for age verification requirements in Bitcoin, posting a graphic response to the suggested measures earlier this year. These stances reflect his broader focus on technical integrity within the cryptocurrency space.
