James Pethokoukis: Inflation outpaces wage growth as gasoline prices surge
Inflation rises faster than wage growth

James Pethokoukis reports that, for the first time in three years, inflation is rising faster than growth in Americans’ paychecks.

According to Pethokoukis, higher prices at the gas pump are a key factor, with Americans currently paying about $4.50 a gallon for regular gasoline. This marks an increase of more than 50% since late February. Meanwhile, wage gains have not kept up with these rising costs.

Pethokoukis has recently examined other factors affecting the U.S. economy. His report on AI’s limited impact on unemployment found new technology is raising jobless figures by just 0.1 point. He also analyzed the market outlook under potential Trump term policies, citing possible effects from corporate tax cuts and AI deregulation.
