Higher inflation seen as lasting in American business, Andrew Ackerman notes
Firms expect higher inflation to persist

Andrew Ackerman highlights that American businesses are increasingly convinced that higher inflation is becoming a lasting factor in the U.S. economy.

According to Ackerman, several forces are pushing inflation higher, including ongoing tariffs impacting supply chains, instability in oil prices due to the Iran war, and rising demand for components and electricity driven by AI data centers.

Ackerman previously reported that nine of nineteen Federal Reserve officials now expect at least one rate hike by year end, up from zero in March, according to recent Fed projections. He also noted that a Federal Reserve governor attended a Bank of America dinner during the central bank’s quiet period, raising questions over policy communications. These developments come as policymakers weigh persistent inflation pressures.
