Neil Jacobs: Weak passphrases put bitcoin wallets at risk if seed phrase is exposed
Weak passphrases endanger bitcoin wallets

Neil Jacobs cautions cryptocurrency users about the limits of passphrase protection. He warns that if a wallet's seed phrase has been compromised, moving bitcoin quickly is essential.

According to Jacobs, simply relying on a passphrase is not enough to secure a wallet if it lacks sufficient entropy. Attackers can potentially brute-force weak passphrases once they possess the seed phrase.

Jacobs previously alerted users after a $10,000 bitcoin loss linked to insufficient wallet security measures with a COLDCARD Mk3 device, according to a prior report. He has also discussed how a passphrase could help protect assets from attacks during 2021 Clubhouse conversations on Bitcoin security, as detailed in a separate article. These incidents highlight ongoing concerns regarding wallet protection methods.
