Kevin Bryan reports that the net effect of tariffs on Canada in 2025 and 2026 was roughly zero. He observes that much of the economic weakness experienced in Canada before 2025 is being attributed to tariffs.
Bryan points out that new tariffs have increased the overall tariff rate to about 5.5 percent. While this level is described as costly, he suggests it is considerably lower than the average Canadian believes, particularly given the heated rhetoric around the issue.

Bryan has previously noted that Canadian firms secured about half the venture capital funding per capita compared to U.S. companies, even with government support, in a recent analysis. In an earlier report, he observed that costly and indecisive meetings contribute to inefficiency in large organizations, as detailed in his study on corporate practices. These observations provide additional context to his ongoing coverage of economic challenges in Canada.
