Gordon Johnson: Tesla August sales fell in U.S., Europe, and China
Tesla sales fall in major markets

Gordon Johnson, CEO / Analyst at GLJ Research, reports that Tesla's August sales dropped in several major markets. U.S. sales were down 26.5%, Europe declined 5.1%, and China wholesale sales rose 3.6% but slowed compared to July. China domestic sales were down 12% year-to-date, with export growth of 130% masking weaker domestic demand. Johnson highlights that every region experienced a sales deceleration in the same month, raising concerns for Tesla's third quarter performance.

Earlier this year, Johnson noted that Tesla still lacks federal, state, and technical approvals for fully unsupervised Robotaxi operations in the U.S. according to his analysis. In a separate commentary, he addressed investor concerns after Elon Musk suggested Tesla revenue might exceed estimates based on recent company guidance earlier this year. These previous observations form the backdrop to Johnson’s latest assessment of Tesla’s regional sales trends.
