U.K. government borrowing outpaces forecast

Richard Tice highlights that U.K. government borrowing reached £18.3 billion in August, surpassing the OBR forecast of £14.8 billion by 24%.

He further cites that the projected borrowing for 25/26 stands at £77.3 billion, which is £8.1 billion higher than the OBR's expected £69.2 billion figure. According to Tice, the ONS has raised its borrowing estimates for every month of 25/26 since July, adding an extra £2.3 billion overall. Tice makes these observations as economic growth remains weak.

Tice has previously linked policy changes to significant property market activity, reporting that 30,000 landlords have sold properties amid rent reforms. He has also raised concerns that £200bn in grid upgrades for net zero targets could lead to higher consumer energy bills. Both issues add context to his ongoing economic commentary.
