Startups focused on tools for decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs), including Utopia Labs, Syndicate, and Bonfire, appeared during the 2020 to 2022 period. Rain initially provided stablecoin-linked cards to help DAOs pay AWS bills, and groups like ConstitutionDAO and PartyDAO played roles in bringing DAO-related innovations to a wider audience.

Cuy Sheffield, vice president and global head of crypto at Visa, reflected on this wave of DAO tooling startups and developments.

Earlier this year, Cuy Sheffield highlighted Visa’s expansion of its crypto team following the Atum announcement.
