137,000 U.S. households control 15% wealth

A total of 137,000 U.S. households now control 15% of all household wealth, according to Ben Carlson.

Ben Carlson, director of institutional asset management at Ritholtz Wealth Management, also stated that 5 million U.S. households are worth $5 million or more. He further noted that young people today are wealthier than older generations were at the same age, with a record number of people now belonging to the upper middle class. Carlson added that poor and middle-class households have also experienced gains.

Carlson has previously pointed out that the S&P 500 delivered annualized real returns close to 15% since March 2020, even as Treasury yields and inflation increased. He has also highlighted that bonds are logging their first 10-year negative real return since 1976 due to rapid rate hikes. S&P 500 performance and bond market losses form part of his analysis of current wealth trends.
