U.S. interest costs surpass defense spend

The U.S. government spent $1.052 trillion on net interest payments during fiscal 2026, while national defense expenses totaled $965 billion.

Quinten Francois highlighted that this meant the government paid $87 billion more in servicing debt than it did funding national defense—about 9% higher—without reducing the principal owed. Francois also commented that his expectation is voters may eventually refuse such levels of spending.

Francois previously commented on developments in blockchain infrastructure, noting that a Chainlink and DTCC demo could unlock $50 trillion in assets. He has also tracked crypto market signals, reporting when the crypto monthly RSI returned above 50 after six months. These updates reflect his focus on both traditional and digital finance metrics.
