Daniel Batten: Landfill emissions and health risks addressed by Bitcoin mining
Bitcoin mining and landfill emission concerns

Roughly 15 million people worldwide live near landfills, with many children facing high rates of birth defects, chronic shortness of breath, and a reported 35 year life expectancy. Daniel Batten described how half of the world’s landfills previously lacked a profitable method to eliminate landfill emissions, which he says are the cause of these health issues, until the advent of Bitcoin mining.

Batten previously suggested that pairing Bitcoin mining with carbon credits could create a profitable solution for reducing landfill methane emissions, according to a recent article. In a separate keynote, he pointed to the effectiveness of using storytelling to explain energy issues linked to Bitcoin, as highlighted in another report. The combination of profit incentives and communication strategies has been central to his arguments on landfill mitigation.
