Deirdre Bosa: Big tech's core businesses no longer cover AI buildout costs
AI buildout outpaces tech cash flow

Major technology companies can no longer fund artificial intelligence development solely from their existing businesses, according to Deirdre Bosa. She points out that while cloud demand has been strong—AWS up 39%, Azure up 48%, and GCP up 103%—these companies' core businesses are not generating enough free cash flow to sustain the AI buildout. Bosa highlights that Amazon's trailing free cash flow stands at –$42 billion, and Alphabet reported –$9 billion in free cash flow for Q3.

Bosa has previously reported that Anthropic's SpaceXAI deal may exceed second-quarter compute costs, reaching an estimated $3.1 billion per month at full capacity here. In a separate analysis, she noted that Alphabet trades at the lowest forward earnings multiple compared to other hyperscalers like Microsoft and Amazon here. These findings point to significant spending and valuation disparities among leading technology firms.
