Recent U.S. housing gains prompt debate on investment value, Ben Carlson notes
U.S. housing price returns and outlook

U.S. housing prices have posted annual returns of 11% in 2020, 19% in 2021, 6% in 2022, 6% in 2023, 4% in 2024, and projected returns of 1% in both 2025 and 2026.

Ben Carlson, director at Ritholtz Wealth Management, pointed to these figures and questioned whether housing prices will lag inflation for the rest of the decade. Carlson also asked if housing is now a bad investment.

Carlson has recently weighed in on other market sectors, including the fitness industry. He noted that Planet Fitness shares have fallen 50% this year. In a separate note, he suggested that investors consider rebalancing their portfolios as a timely and straightforward strategy.
