Microsoft shares have recovered toward the $400 area after rebounding from recent lows, supported by improving sentiment across the AI sector and expectations for another solid earnings report later this month. While investors remain concerned about elevated capital spending, several Wall Street firms continue to argue that Microsoft's aggressive investment cycle should translate into stronger Azure growth and expanding AI revenue over the next several quarters.

Citi recently lowered its price target because of higher AI spending but maintained a Buy rating, while Evercore reiterated confidence in Microsoft's long-term AI strategy.
Enterprise AI adoption continues to expand
Microsoft continues to strengthen its enterprise AI ecosystem through Copilot, Azure AI and its Frontier Company initiative, while also expanding partnerships that accelerate enterprise adoption. Recent announcements include new AI infrastructure collaborations with 3M and continued investment in enterprise AI platforms, reinforcing Microsoft's strategy of offering fully integrated AI solutions rather than individual products. Investors are now focused on whether upcoming earnings will demonstrate that accelerating AI adoption is beginning to offset the heavy infrastructure spending.
U.S. macro data provides a supportive backdrop
Recent U.S. macroeconomic releases remain broadly favorable for large-cap technology stocks. June retail sales increased 0.2%, weekly jobless claims declined to 208,000, while June payroll growth slowed considerably and inflation continued to moderate. The combination of resilient consumer demand, easing inflation and a softer labor market has strengthened expectations that the Federal Reserve can avoid further policy tightening, although Treasury yields remain sensitive to incoming economic data.
Technical picture points to an improving short-term recovery
The daily chart shows Microsoft rebounding toward the $400 level after successfully defending support near $350. The recovery has pushed the stock back above its shortest moving average, while price is testing the area around the 50-day moving average near $405. Even so, Microsoft remains below its longer-term moving averages, indicating that the broader corrective trend has not yet been fully reversed. A sustained move above the $410 to $420 resistance zone would improve the technical outlook and expose the $440 region, while renewed weakness below $380 could shift attention back toward the recent lows near $350.
Long-term outlook remains constructive
As I noted in the article Microsoft stabilizes as AI strategy remains in focus, Microsoft's long-term fundamentals remain constructive despite near-term volatility. The company continues to generate strong cloud revenue, Azure demand remains healthy and enterprise AI adoption is expanding. While elevated capital expenditures may continue to pressure free cash flow in the near term, any meaningful pullback could continue to attract long-term buyers if AI monetization keeps accelerating.
At this stage, the bulls appear capable of testing the $420 to $430 resistance zone. However, as long as the stock remains below these levels, as I warned in the article Microsoft rebounds from key support as AI momentum improves sentiment, the risk of a decline toward the $380 to $360 support area will remain.
