Profit-taking weighs on Snowflake stock after sharp rally

Profit-taking weighs on Snowflake stock after sharp rally
Profit-taking puts the $285–280 zone in focus.

Snowflake continues to demonstrate strong fundamental performance, but the absence of a new catalyst has intensified profit-taking following the stock’s sharp advance. A decline below $300 shifts attention toward the $285–280 support zone, while an overbought RSI points to the risk of a deeper correction.

On August 5, Snowflake hosted its online Summit Encore event focused on the use of artificial intelligence in industrial applications. Representatives from Deloitte and Union Pacific participated, but the event was primarily product- and education-focused and did not include new financial guidance or major commercial agreements.

Given the absence of negative news, the current decline appears to be driven mainly by profit-taking after the stock’s rapid rise and weaker demand for technology shares that have recently posted strong gains.

Break below $300 exposes the $285–280 support zone

Snowflake shares fell slightly short of the previously identified target near $328 and ended the previous trading session at $323.10.

After gaining approximately 20% since late July, the stock appears set for a short-term pullback. The psychological $300 level initially served as support, but the shares have fallen below this threshold in premarket trading.

If the regular trading session opens below $300, the $285–280 range will become the next key support zone.

The RSI (14) provides an additional signal in favor of a correction. The indicator has remained in overbought territory for around a month, highlighting the overheated nature of the rally and increasing the probability of further profit-taking.

Strong fundamentals fail to prevent a technical pullback

Snowflake’s fundamental backdrop does indeed remain strong. The company expects second-quarter product revenue of $1.415–1.420 billion, representing growth of approximately 30%, with an adjusted operating margin of 12.5%. The available indicators therefore do not currently point to a deterioration in operating performance.

The weakness in the shares appears predominantly technical. Following the rapid advance, short- and medium-term traders have begun taking profits, while the overbought RSI has added further pressure to the price.
