Palantir tests $188 resistance as macro risks limit upside
Palantir stock has approached key resistance at $188 following a strong recovery across the software sector. However, geopolitical risks and an RSI nearing overbought territory increase the probability of a short-term pullback.
Investors are assessing the implications of a federal court ruling that found the Pentagon’s restrictions against Anthropic unlawful. The decision reduces the risk of tighter limits on the use of third-party AI models within defence AI infrastructure and supports the broader outlook for Palantir’s Maven platform.
The recovery across software stocks is providing additional support. Investor’s Business Daily highlighted Palantir among the sector’s stronger names, pointing to a 12th consecutive quarter of accelerating revenue growth and the continued development of its sovereign AI strategy.

PLTR stalls below $188 as RSI approaches overbought levels
PLTR tested key resistance at $188, but buyers have so far failed to establish the stock above this level. A decisive break and sustained move higher would open the way toward the next psychological target at $200.
The risk of a correction, however, remains elevated. The RSI (14) is close to overbought territory, while a weaker macroeconomic and geopolitical backdrop could encourage additional profit-taking.
In that case, the nearest downside target would be psychological support at $180.
Palantir momentum faces a tougher macro backdrop
The external backdrop for high-beta technology stocks deteriorated on August 31. Brent climbed above $92 following renewed escalation between the U.S. and Iran, while higher bond yields reinforced expectations of a more restrictive Fed policy stance.
Palantir’s fundamental momentum remains strong, but further upside requires a sustained move above $188. Until that happens, the combination of a stretched RSI and a weaker market backdrop keeps the risk of a return toward $180 elevated.
