Tesla loses momentum as high Treasury yields and key catalysts come into focus

Tesla is heading into an event-heavy week after Friday brought a sharp shift in the character of trading. Fresh product catalysts are approaching, but at the same time, the cost of capital is becoming increasingly unfavorable for expensive growth stocks.

Investor attention is turning to two near-term events. On October 1, Tesla is expected to unveil the next-generation Roadster after years of delays. The company has reopened reservations for the model with a $50,000 deposit, while recent patent filings point to the development of an active aerodynamic system for the vehicle.

An even more important short-term catalyst will be third-quarter delivery figures, expected on October 2. The Visible Alpha consensus stands at around 454,000 vehicles, while Goldman Sachs expects 435,000 and Barclays forecasts 475,000. The wide range highlights how uncertain expectations remain ahead of the report.

Treasury yields add pressure to high-growth stocks

The bond market remains another source of risk for Tesla. The 10-year Treasury yield rose as high as 5.2297% on Friday, its highest level since 2007, while the 30-year yield reached roughly 5.53%, a level not seen since 2004.

When near-risk-free government bonds offer yields above 5%, equities face much stronger competition for capital.

$367.50 becomes the key support after heavy selling

Tesla shares fully played out the scenario outlined earlier. The stock reached the $383 target and tested $386.83.

On Friday, September 25, however, the shares came under heavy selling pressure. The price fell to $372.11, making support at $367.50 particularly important for today’s session.

If sellers push the stock below that level, TSLA risks entering a deeper correction toward the $350–$348.30 area, where horizontal support and the 50-day SMA are located.

This scenario would be invalidated if the stock holds $367.70 for two to three trading sessions and then moves back above $380.

Labor market data could become the next major catalyst

The next major macroeconomic event will be the September U.S. labor market report, which the BLS is due to release on Friday, October 2. The report will provide fresh data on employment, unemployment and wage growth and will be one of the key inputs for the Federal Reserve’s next interest-rate decisions.

For Tesla, this is particularly important with Treasury yields above 5%. A strong labor market could reinforce expectations for tighter Fed policy and keep upward pressure on yields, while signs of cooling employment could shift the market’s rate outlook.
