Lucid Group reports lower third-quarter EV deliveries as production reset continues
Lucid Q3 EV delivery drop

Facing softer customer demand and an operational reset under its new chief executive, Lucid Group reports lower vehicle deliveries and production in the third quarter. The electric vehicle maker says it delivered 3,806 vehicles and produced 2,954 units from July through September, while year-to-date deliveries remain slightly above last year.

Highlights

  • Lucid delivers 3,806 vehicles and produces 2,954 units in Q3 2023, down 6.7% and 24% year-over-year respectively after reducing production shifts.
  • CEO Silvio Napoli leads an operational reset, cutting Arizona plant production from two shifts to one amid persistent weaker demand and cautious output management.
  • Lucid targets $1.4 billion in 2023 cash flow improvements, including $600–800 million tied to inventory, $500 million in capex, and $200 million in operating expenses.

Third-quarter volumes and production shift

As reported by CNBC, Lucid says third-quarter vehicle deliveries fall 6.7% from a year earlier after the company reduces output to better match slower demand. The U.S. electric vehicle maker delivers 3,806 vehicles and produces 2,954 units in the July-to-September period, compared with 4,078 deliveries and 3,891 vehicles produced a year earlier.

The latest quarter is the first since Lucid cuts production at its Arizona plant from two shifts to one as part of an operational reset under CEO Silvio Napoli, who starts leading the automaker in June. Lucid also says it plans to report third-quarter financial results on Nov. 9 after markets close.

Cash flow targets and industry implications

Through the third quarter, Lucid says deliveries are 3.4% higher than a year earlier, while production rises 33% as the company ramps up manufacturing earlier this year. The figures suggest the company is balancing earlier output growth with a more cautious production pace as demand softens.

Lucid says its turnaround plan includes identifying $1.4 billion in cash flow improvement opportunities this year. Those measures include about $600 million to $800 million tied to vehicle inventory, $500 million in capital expenditures and $200 million in operating expenses, based on the company's second-quarter results announcement in August.
