Screen flags companies with strong earnings-day share gains
As reported by CNBC Pro, citing data from Bespoke Investment Group, the screen looks for companies reporting next week that have beaten earnings-per-share estimates at least 80% of the time and whose shares have gained an average of 1.5% or more on earnings days.Among the companies due to report are Procter & Gamble and Union Pacific, while the screen identifies seven names including RingCentral, Intuitive Surgical and Deckers Outdoor.
RingCentral has the strongest historical record among the stocks identified. The cloud communications company has topped estimates 98% of the time, and its shares have averaged a 4.2% gain on earnings day, the largest increase in the group.
RingCentral is scheduled to report third-quarter results after the closing bell on Oct. 22. The company recently entered a strategic partnership with Allnet.Italia, which is set to let the Italian firm's channel partners sell, implement and support advanced AI offerings in Italy, according to a statement.
Analyst views and sector moves shape expectations
Allnet.Italia CEO Emiliano Papadopoulos said in a statement that the partnership adds an AI-first cloud platform to the distributor's portfolio and gives resellers a way to build recurring revenue on a global platform with local support. RingCentral shares are up 160% this year, although analysts polled by LSEG largely rate the stock hold, and consensus price targets imply a potential 27% decline from current levels.Intuitive Surgical also appears on the list, with an 89% earnings beat rate and an average 2.4% gain on earnings days. The robotic surgery company is expected to report on Oct. 20.
Shares of Intuitive Surgical fell more than 1% Tuesday alongside other medical-device stocks after Johnson & Johnson reported weaker-than-expected MedTech sales. Even so, 25 of 35 analysts rate the stock a buy or strong buy, according to LSEG, and consensus price targets suggest nearly 15% upside, while the shares are down almost 26% in 2026.
In our earlier coverage of the S&P 500’s run toward 8,000, we noted that the market is heading into a key test as investors look to third-quarter earnings to justify lofty index levels. That backdrop also included tighter financial conditions from higher Treasury yields, elevated oil prices, and concerns about market breadth and concentration in a handful of mega-cap leaders.
