Hayden Adams, the creator of Uniswap, remains a foundational innovator in decentralized finance (DeFi) in 2025. Uniswap has surpassed $2 trillion in all-time trading volume, and the protocol now supports multi-chain deployments across Ethereum, Optimism, Polygon, and Base. In 2024, Uniswap Labs introduced a new fee-sharing governance model and a wallet upgrade integrating Layer 2 swaps and account abstraction. The Uniswap DAO has over 400,000 token holders participating in on-chain governance.
Adams, a former mechanical engineer at Siemens, taught himself Solidity and launched Uniswap in 2018 with a grant from the Ethereum Foundation. The protocol popularized the automated market maker (AMM) model and remains the most widely used decentralized exchange. Adams continues to push for regulatory clarity around DeFi and has testified before U.S. Congressional subcommittees on crypto innovation. He is widely recognized as one of the most impactful builders in Web3 and remains active in open-source development, ecosystem grants, and protocol research.
