Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether and Chief Technology Officer at Bitfinex, remains a key architect of the stablecoin sector in 2025. Under his leadership, Tether (USDT) continues to lead the market with a circulating supply of more than $115 billion. In 2024, Ardoino oversaw the launch of Tether’s Bitcoin mining operations in Uruguay and introduced Tether Energy, a venture dedicated to building sustainable mining infrastructure. He also led the rollout of new stablecoins backed by gold and short-term U.S. Treasury bills, broadening Tether’s range of offerings.
Originally from Italy, Ardoino has a background in mathematics and computer science and previously worked on high-frequency trading platforms. He joined Bitfinex in 2014, where he developed the exchange’s core systems and matching engine. Known for his focus on operational transparency, he has consistently released detailed attestation reports and reserve disclosures. In 2024, Tether reported net profits of more than $6 billion, largely driven by returns on U.S. Treasury investments. Ardoino also launched Pear Credit, a decentralized credit platform, further establishing himself as one of crypto’s most technically skilled and forward-thinking leaders.
