DoorDash Labs is advancing its autonomous delivery efforts by equipping its vehicle, Dot, with a suite of sensors including nine cameras, four radars, and three high-resolution lidar sensors to provide 360-degree coverage. The system is integrated with deep learning and search-based algorithms and draws upon data from ten billion deliveries. According to Stanley Tang, this technology is designed to tackle the complexity of real world delivery scenarios in the U.S. market.
DoorDash was recently named among the world’s top 50 most innovative companies for its autonomous delivery development, according to previous reporting. In an earlier milestone, the company’s Dot autonomous delivery robot received approval to operate in California. Stanley Tang announced the expanded local deployment at the time, citing regulatory clearance in the state.
