Deribit has introduced a new matching engine, named Starbase, which reduces trade execution latency from milliseconds to microseconds and is designed to handle higher order volumes with more predictable response times.
Deribit has launched a new matching engine called Starbase, replacing its previous system to reduce trade execution latency from milliseconds to microseconds. The upgrade aims to improve system throughput, maintain performance during periods of high market volatility, and increase fairness by implementing strict FIFO order processing and equalizing access for colocated and cross-connect users. Starbase introduces several connectivity and API options, including SBE over TCP and UDP multicast, FIX Drop Copy, updated REST API capabilities, and continued WebSocket support for latency-insensitive needs. The rollout also marks a step toward unified infrastructure with Coinbase International Exchange and is intended to facilitate future product development and liquidity consolidation. The testnet went live in April 2026, with production deployment completed in early July 2026.
