According to the updated schedule, trading will be available from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. Japan Standard Time (JST) the following day. On Fridays, trading will close earlier at 6:00 a.m. due to the U.S. daylight saving time adjustment.

Affected assets and what it means for clients

The changes apply to a wide selection of popular instruments, including stocks such as Albemarle Corp, Carnival Corp, First Solar, XPeng Inc, WeRide Inc, and Enphase Energy, as well as ETFs like Global X Silver Miners ETF, Direxion Daily Semiconductor Bear 3X Shares, and VanEck Vectors Gold Miners ETF. This update will allow both existing and prospective traders to respond more quickly to U.S. market developments—from earnings reports to after-hours news releases.

Clients who placed stop-limit or limit orders before the schedule change should be aware that if the trigger price is reached during the extended hours, the trade will be executed. It's also crucial to note that if the margin maintenance level on an account falls below 75%, positions may be automatically liquidated.

Call to action and strategic relevance

IG's Japanese branch strongly encourages all clients to review the new trading hours and adjust their strategies accordingly to avoid unexpected margin calls or execution delays. This update highlights the company’s commitment to enhancing trading conditions for its Japanese customer base, many of whom actively invest in U.S. stocks and ETFs outside traditional Tokyo trading hours. The move further strengthens IG’s competitive positioning amid the rapid growth of Japan’s retail trading market.

The full list of affected assets and revised trading conditions is available on the official IG Securities website.
