OKX has introduced OKX Shield, a program that users can activate to seek reimbursement for qualifying unauthorized account takeovers, with coverage limits varying by account tier and subject to terms and conditions.
OKX has made public the introduction of OKX Shield, described as a voluntary and discretionary goodwill programme intended to provide reimbursement in cases of unauthorized account takeovers on the OKX Exchange. The programme covers eligible losses from qualifying third-party account takeovers while OKX Shield is active, with varying reimbursement limits based on user tier—up to $100,000 for regular users, $250,000 for VIP 1–3, and $500,000 for VIP 4–6, subject to terms and conditions. OKX Shield is not insurance, and participation is free of charge, but users must activate the programme and comply with strict security requirements, such as enabling multi-factor authentication and specific withdrawal protections. Claims are limited to one successful application per user’s lifetime across all OKX entities, and eligibility, incident types, and exclusions are formally defined. Submissions must be made within 72 hours of an incident, and all claims are subject to OKX’s case review process.

To activate the OKX Shield protection program, log in to your OKX account and navigate to the Shield activation area (found in the Security Center, Portfolio, or product menu). Complete six security steps: confirm account eligibility, perform device health checks, enable passkey authentication, activate Large Withdrawal and Web Withdrawal Protection, and set up multi-factor authentication. After reviewing and accepting the Terms & Conditions, manually activate OKX Shield. Shield will remain active as long as all requirements are met. Start by visiting the official sign-up link.
