The program allowed participants to trade at half the usual minimum contract size during the first two weeks after account activation. Its official termination will take place on August 17, 2025, according to the company’s website.

Reasons for closure and trading condition changes

The broker explained that the decision is linked to broader improvements in trading conditions introduced earlier this year. In May 2025, IG Securities adjusted contract sizes across multiple instruments to make trading more accessible and flexible for retail investors. With these modifications in place, the company stated that the special role of the Introductory Program has effectively been fulfilled.

Under the program, new traders benefited from a reduced entry threshold, lowering their initial exposure while becoming accustomed to the platform. By halving the minimum trade size, IG aimed to provide a smoother transition from demo accounts to live trading. The initiative was considered one of IG Securities’ most client-friendly features, particularly popular among beginners.

Client support and market trends

Starting August 18, 2025, the program will no longer apply to new or existing accounts. However, IG Securities emphasized that the updated contract sizes and improved trading environment will continue to support traders of all levels, even without the program in place.

The Japanese arm of IG reassured clients that the termination of the Introductory Program will not reduce overall trading accessibility. “We have implemented structural changes that already make trading smoother for most of our customers,” the firm said. Clients are encouraged to review the updated trading conditions, which IG believes will deliver long-term benefits compared with the temporary relief the program once provided.

For any questions regarding the transition, clients may contact the IG Securities support desk.

This move reflects a broader industry trend in Japan and beyond, where brokers are increasingly prioritizing platform upgrades and product adjustments over temporary incentive schemes. By integrating structural improvements into its core services, IG Securities aims to build a sustainable and user-friendly environment for its expanding client base.

It is worth noting that IG Japan had previously announced the delisting of certain U.S. stocks.
