Highlights

  • Coffee futures remain under significant selling pressure across short-, medium-, and long-term timeframes, trading well below major moving averages.
  • Momentum and breadth indicators overwhelmingly signal a bearish trend, reinforced by oversold conditions and persistent negative flows.
  • Price action is expected to consolidate between USX307.3 and USX317.96, with further downside more likely and upside reversal odds low unless key resistance is breached.

Oversold technicals emerge as bearish momentum accelerates

Recent trading saw KC cross beneath several key technical levels, with the MA-20 at USX318.15, MA-50 at USX320.58, and MA-200 at USX323.97 now acting as reference points for any potential rebounds. The Ichimoku Kijun currently sits at USX319.92 and functions as immediate resistance. Momentum signals including MACD and Awesome Oscillator both indicate a downtrend, while ADX holds at neutral. RSI registers at 41.7, Stoch RSI is in oversold territory, and CCI signals oversold intraday conditions, highlighting the possibility of short-term stabilization. Intraday sentiment is confirmed bearish by negative Bull/Bear Power readings and an overall negative AO.

Consolidation risk increases as selling pressure outweighs rebound

In the near term, the price of KC is likely to consolidate within a USX307.3 to USX317.96 range given typical volatility. The probability of an upside move remains low, while the chance of further declines is high as selling pressure dominates. Should the price break above USX319.92, a short covering scenario may occur, while a close below the lower bound would confirm additional downside risk.

Viktoras Karapetjanc, analyst at Traders Union, sees sustained downside pressure for Coffee, with no supportive news to shift sentiment. He highlights that technical momentum and intraday indicators continue to favor sellers, and the price remains contained below major averages. However, signals of oversold conditions suggest that some stabilization is possible in the short term. In his view, only a firm move above USX319.92 would open the door for rebound attempts. "The sellers are in control, but any close above resistance could quickly spark a round of short covering," says Karapetjanc.

Earlier, analysts noted that geopolitical and trade risks related to Nicaraguan exports could add upward pressure to already tight global coffee markets. However, with technical signals in the current session pointing to sustained bearish momentum despite these underlying risks, traders should closely monitor for a potential volatility spike if macro or trade news interrupts the prevailing downtrend.
