Sustained ETF inflows as prices weaken and global demand holds
Gold exchange-traded funds in India saw inflows of approximately ₹4,500 crore in September, their highest in seven months, highlighting increased institutional and retail demand even as bullion prices weakened, according to Business Standard. Data from Fortuneindia indicated that a record ₹45,925 crore flowed into Indian gold ETFs over the first nine months of 2026 despite a nearly 22% drop in spot prices from January. Meanwhile, global funds such as SPDR Gold Shares ETF and iShares Gold Trust attracted $1.28 billion and $439 million in the last 30 days, reflecting persistent appetite for gold exposure from investors worldwide. These developments point to strong underlying investment interest, though price action has remained under broader selling pressure.
Oversold signals and neutral momentum amid resistance challenges
Intraday technical levels show XAU trading below the MA-20 and MA-50, as well as the long-term MA-200 on the daily chart. Immediate resistance is identified at the Ichimoku Kijun level near $4,192. Momentum indicators display a neutral MACD and ongoing selling bias on the ADX. RSI is positioned in sell territory, while Stochastic RSI, CCI, and Bull/Bear Power all flag oversold conditions. The Awesome Oscillator also signals continued selling momentum, confirming the recent downward move.
Consolidation expected as downside risk persists within range
In the next 2–3 trading days, gold is expected to consolidate within the $4,136 to $4,203 range. Downside risk is slightly favored, with a 45% probability assigned to an upward retracement. Unless resistance at the $4,192 zone is cleared, the baseline scenario sees price stabilization in this band. A break above resistance may prompt a recovery toward the upper end of the range, while a loss of support at the lower boundary could accelerate further declines.
Earlier, analysts noted that a softer dollar and easing oil prices provided gold with some support, even as investors awaited further cues from inflation data and central bank policy shifts. The latest surge in global ETF inflows, especially from India, adds a new layer of structural demand that could cushion prices, making the $4,192 resistance zone a key level to monitor for any near-term reversal opportunities.
