Highlights

  • Cocoa trades below short- and medium-term moving averages but remains well above the longer-term average, with sellers dominating intraday momentum.
  • Momentum indicators present mixed signals with oversold readings prevailing and divergence among oscillators creating uncertainty in short-term direction.
  • Forecast expects cocoa to trade between $5,516 and $5,713, with a 74% probability of further downside and $5,637 as key resistance.

Oscillator divergence and resistance cap upside momentum

On the hourly chart, CC is positioned below the MA-20 and MA-50, while remaining well above the MA-200. The Ichimoku Kijun level at $5,637 serves as immediate resistance for the current session. Momentum indicators present a mixed picture: MACD points to possible upside, but RSI is in Sell territory, ADX is neutral, Stochastic RSI is oversold, CCI is neutral, and Bull/Bear Power signals an oversold condition, reflecting ongoing seller dominance in the intraday momentum. Divergent readings among oscillators highlight an uncertain near-term direction, with moderate volatility and a negative gap contributing to the current market stance.

Downside risk prevails as breakout levels define outlook

In the short term, cocoa is expected to range between $5,516 and $5,713, reflecting typical volatility relative to current levels. There is a 26% probability of an upward move and a higher 74% chance of further downside, making additional losses more likely than a rebound. A baseline scenario sees price action continuing sideways within this corridor. However, a breakout above the $5,637 resistance may trigger further gains, while a move below $5,516 support could open the door to deeper declines.

Viktoras Karapetjanc, expert at Traders Union, sees cocoa holding above long-term support but notes it remains under pressure in the short term. The analyst highlights mixed momentum readings and a lack of supportive news as factors limiting clarity. He believes the market is in a consolidation phase, with volatility expected to persist. "If buyers reclaim $5,637, short-term upside could follow, but for now I’m leaning toward more downside before a stronger rebound sets in."

Previously it was reported that the UK supplied new cocoa processing equipment to Solomon Islands' KOSI to boost production and support export growth. With current market conditions reflecting ongoing downside risks and uncertain momentum, traders should monitor the $5,516 support zone for potential further declines in cocoa prices.
