SoundThinking reported that a real-time ShotSpotter alert in Columbia, South Carolina set off a police response that ultimately led to an arrest and the recovery of a firearm.
According to the company, the initial alert weeks earlier enabled law enforcement to begin an investigation that contributed essential intelligence to the case. SoundThinking emphasized the role of technology in supporting police work and helping close cases more effectively.
SoundThinking has recently expanded its technology offerings with the launch of PlateRanger, an automated video capture system for license plates. In a previous incident, ShotSpotter alerts from SoundThinking enabled police in Aurora, Illinois to quickly detain suspects after gunfire was detected, resulting in arrests and control of the scene. These deployments highlight continued police use of digital tools to support response efforts.
