Ouster, Inc. has introduced the OS1 Max sensor, featuring 256 channels within a 45 degree vertical field of view and up to 500 meters of range.
This represents double the angular sampling density of the standard OS1 model, achieving as many as 10.4 million points per second. The company states that the significantly higher channel count enables more detailed returns, improving the detection of distant objects such as pedestrians and advancing the capabilities of lidar technology in autonomous and safety-critical systems.
Ouster previously introduced digital lidar technology with structured depth images and precise 3D point mapping for accurate sensing, as detailed in its grid-based 3D point output. In a separate move, the company unveiled its Rev8 lidar at the Automate Show in Chicago, focusing on applications in robotics, industrial automation, and smart infrastructure, according to its Rev8 product launch. These developments highlight Ouster’s ongoing expansion of its lidar capabilities.
