Nano Nuclear NRC review begins

Nano Nuclear Energy Inc. joined representatives from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign to announce the start of the NRC review process for its microreactor initiative in the U.S.

The review kickoff meeting was held on June 23, 2026. The discussion focused on the regulatory pathway to advance licensing of next-generation microreactor technology, positioning Nano Nuclear Energy Inc. and its partners at the forefront of nuclear innovation.

Earlier this year, Nano Nuclear Energy Inc. secured regulatory approval for KRONOS MMR construction at the University of Illinois, with construction targeted to begin in 2027, according to a recent filing. The company’s subsidiary STS also completed three Department of Energy and NNSA-aligned nuclear material transport missions, as detailed previously. These developments frame the company’s latest move to advance microreactor licensing.
