Ahi Substation project prompts lane closures in East Honolulu as Hawaiian Electric conducts upgrade
Ahi Substation lane closures today

Hawaiian Electric will close two mauka lanes of Kawaihae Street between Hawaii Kai Drive and Hakalau Place from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm today as crews install electrical equipment at the Ahi Substation.

The ongoing infrastructure project aims to improve reliability in East Honolulu. Traffic will be contraflowed to accommodate the lane closures. No service interruptions have been announced for local residents and businesses. Details are being clarified.

Hawaiian Electric is continuing efforts to modernize infrastructure and boost system reliability in East Honolulu. The company recently outlined its Hawaii Powered vision, seeking public input to achieve 100 percent local clean energy goals. Employees have previously cited a strong team environment and scenic job sites as key factors in workplace satisfaction.
