Redfin: Seller concessions rise

Nearly half of U.S. homebuyers received seller concessions during closing in August according to Redfin.

The real estate firm reports that 44.7 percent of U.S. home sales included a concession, as buyers gained more negotiating power in the current market. In certain Sun Belt metropolitan areas, the rate of concessions was even higher, nearing 70 percent.

Earlier this year, Redfin highlighted that San Diego homes were selling eight days faster year over year, with buyer leverage increasing as sellers outnumbered demand. In Texas, the firm reported that Houston became the top buyer market as price cuts and seller concessions created new opportunities for purchasers. These reports point to recent patterns of increased buyer power in several key markets.
