California heat wave sees Sunrun set new 745 MW residential battery dispatch record
Sunrun hits residential battery record

Sunrun announced that during California's recent intense heat wave, home batteries provided an average of 745 megawatts of power to the state grid for several hours. This achievement establishes a new record for the largest residential distributed power plant dispatch in U.S. history.

The record setting took place over two consecutive nights, demonstrating the growing operational role of home energy storage in supporting grid stability during extreme weather events.

Earlier this year, Sunrun delivered 580 megawatts to the California grid using 140,000 home batteries during record energy demand, according to a previous deployment. The company has also expanded its partnership with SPAN for distributed AI compute solutions, as reported when Sunrun stock fell 2.1%. These developments highlight Sunrun’s ongoing efforts in distributed energy resources.
