Sunrun delivers 580 MW to grid

Sunrun announced that it deployed over 140,000 home batteries on September 9, collectively delivering 580 megawatts of peak power to California’s grid as the state faced extreme heat and surging energy demand.

The deployment, carried out in partnership with Tesla Energy, was described as a historic moment for American energy, highlighting the expanding role of distributed energy resources in supporting grid stability amid weather-related challenges.

Earlier this year, Sunrun dispatched over 90,000 home batteries across California to help stabilize grid reliability as demand and prices rose, according to a previous update from the company. Sunrun has also partnered with Google and PG&E to enroll 21,000 home energy systems in San Jose as part of a distributed power plant initiative launched for local households. These initiatives indicate Sunrun’s ongoing involvement in distributed energy solutions for the state’s power grid.
