Ouster has used its lidar sensor, the Rev8 OS1 Max, to capture high-detail mapping data from a drone flown 120 meters above Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.

The single-flight operation utilized Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) techniques, enabling the mapping of intricate features such as individual columns and spires, demonstrating the sensor's precision at scale.

Ouster has previously launched an SDK feature to streamline lidar data export for GIS and point cloud use cases, according to a recent product update. The company also partnered with Gangneung City to demonstrate live lidar-powered intersection safety at the ITS World Congress in South Korea, as reported in a recent demonstration. Both efforts reflect Ouster’s ongoing expansion of lidar technology across real-world applications.
