Product rollout spans trading, AI and payments
As reported by MoneySense, Wealthsimple says more than half a million people registered to watch its “Wealthsimple Presents: Something Good Is Going to Happen” event at Massey Hall, where it introduced 12 products and features across investing, banking-style transfers and app functionality.Among the headline launches are Penny, an AI assistant that Wealthsimple says can analyze a client’s finances and turn goals into actions, and planned connections that let clients link Wealthsimple accounts to outside AI tools such as ChatGPT and Claude. The company says Penny can help set up recurring investments, send e-Transfers and wires, flag duplicate charges, manage expenses and assist with buying and selling assets, while still requiring client confirmation before any action is completed.
Wealthsimple Pay is available now and allows instant transfers of up to $100,000 between Wealthsimple clients. Other payments-related additions include temporary virtual cards, due by the end of 2026, and a business credit card with no foreign exchange fees and 1% cash back, expected in early 2027.
On the trading side, Wealthsimple says its Pro platform, scheduled for late November, will combine positions, watchlists and Level 2 market data inside the app. The company also says faster trading is available now, cutting a mobile trade to two steps and four seconds from eight steps and 21 seconds, while commission-free CAD options are already live for Canadian stocks and perpetual futures are planned for late November.
Broader fintech strategy targets Canadian investors
Wealthsimple is also moving deeper into digital assets with CADD, a Canadian-dollar-backed stablecoin expected in late November. The company says the token is designed to track the Canadian dollar, can be redeemed one-to-one for Canadian dollars and will offer a 3.25% annual reward on holdings at Wealthsimple. For portfolio management, the firm says clients can now buy its four direct indexes in existing accounts or convert an existing ETF with a few taps. Wealthsimple says automated tax-loss harvesting in non-registered accounts can improve after-tax returns by up to 0.5% a year.
The company is pairing those additions with a rebuilt mobile app for iOS and Android, expected in early 2027, that it says launches five times faster and offers a customizable home screen. Wealthsimple says it serves more than 4 million Canadians and had about $169 billion in assets under administration as of Sept. 30, 2026.
Our earlier coverage on how AI is raising the cost of standing still explained that artificial intelligence is rapidly lifting competitive standards and making “average” performance less sustainable. We noted that companies increasingly need to rethink investment priorities, workforce skills, and decision-making to capture productivity gains, while those that delay adoption risk losing relevance as AI-driven operating-model change spreads across industries.
