Physicl raises $10 million seed round for robot training simulation tools
Physicl’s $10M robotics leap

As robotics developers look for better ways to train physical AI models, synthetic data and higher-fidelity simulations are becoming a more important part of the tooling stack. Physicl says its newly raised $10 million seed funding will help it adapt 3D rendering technology first built for e-commerce into a platform for more realistic robot training environments.

Highlights

  • Physicl raised $10 million in seed funding from Inovia Capital to expand its simulation software for robotics and world model developers.
  • Physicl's Studio product offers 10,000 3D environments and 100,000 assets, enabling generation of synthetic data focused on training for hard edge cases.
  • Early customer SpAItial uses Physicl's high-fidelity synthetic data tools to enhance 3D simulation training, potentially reducing manual curation time in robotics.

Seed funding backs synthetic data platform

As reported by TechCrunch, Physicl has raised $10 million in seed funding from Inovia Capital to expand software aimed at helping world model developers and robot builders train systems with more realistic simulations.

The startup is led by founder and CEO Alex de Vigan, who previously spent a decade building nfinite, a company focused on helping brands and retailers create 3D models of products for online display. After generative AI began reshaping that market, de Vigan repurposed the team’s rendering and environment-building technology toward robotics and physical AI.

Physicl argues that one of the biggest obstacles in robotics remains the gap between simulated training and real-world performance. The company says its earlier pipeline for turning incomplete and varied real-world information into high-fidelity 3D scenes with accurate geometry, materials, and physics can now be used to improve model training for robots handling difficult object interactions.

Studio targets edge cases in robot training

Physicl is entering a crowded market of companies offering data, labeling, and simulation tools for robotics and foundation model development. Its initial product, called Studio, includes 10,000 3D environments and 100,000 assets that users can combine to generate synthetic data for specific training problems, such as identifying a cup on a cluttered countertop or in shadow.

The company says it wants to focus especially on post-training models for hard edge cases rather than acting only as a static data supplier. De Vigan says customers could eventually bring in very large image or LIDAR datasets and use the platform to convert them into high-quality 3D representations, then create billions of variations for model training.

SpAItial, an early customer, has worked with Physicl to improve the fidelity of its own products, including the recently released Echo-3. SpAItial founder and CEO Matthias Niessner said high-fidelity synthetic data is important for training tools that generate 3D simulations from 2D imagery, adding that on-demand data generation could shorten the lengthy manual curation cycle that still limits robotics model development.
