On February 26, Pump.fun’s official X (formerly Twitter) account was compromised, with hackers using it to promote a fraudulent governance token named "PUMP."

The incident is part of an increasing trend of social media hacks targeting crypto platforms.

Blockchain investigator ZackXBT quickly alerted users to avoid engaging with the compromised account or clicking on any links shared in fraudulent posts. The Pump.fun team later confirmed the hack and assured the community that efforts are underway to regain control of the account.

Rising crypto cybersecurity threats

This breach follows a series of high-profile attacks in the crypto space, including the recent $1.4 billion Bybit hack—the largest single exploit in crypto history. With social media now a frequent target, the industry is facing growing concerns over cybersecurity vulnerabilities, as hackers continue to exploit trust within crypto communities.

As Pump.fun works to restore its account, users are urged to stay cautious, verify information only through official channels, and enable extra security measures to protect their assets from phishing scams and fraud.
