X explores stablecoin payments for creators
X weighs stablecoins for global creator rewards

X is exploring the use of stablecoins to pay creators, potentially adding blockchain-based payments to the social platform as it overhauls its rewards system. USDC, the dollar-backed stablecoin issued by Circle, is among the options under consideration, though no implementation has been announced.

Highlights

  • X is considering stablecoins, including USDC, for creator rewards.
  • No final stablecoin or launch plan has been announced.
  • The proposal comes as X redesigns its creator payment program.

The discussions remain preliminary, and X has not publicly confirmed that it will adopt USDC or any other stablecoin. CoinGape reported that the company is considering stablecoins for creator rewards, while similar payment experiments are taking place elsewhere in the social-media industry.

X rethinks how creators get paid

A stablecoin option would fit into a broader restructuring of creator monetization at X. The company is replacing its Revenue Sharing program with Original Content Rewards, shifting the emphasis toward reporting, commentary, expertise, and other original material.

Adding stablecoins could give X another way to distribute rewards internationally. Unlike conventional cross-border transfers, dollar-linked digital tokens can move across blockchain networks without relying on the same chain of banking intermediaries. That could be particularly relevant for creators operating across multiple countries.

USDC is one of the assets being discussed, but the available reporting does not establish that Circle has been selected as X's preferred provider or that a commercial agreement has been reached. X has also not disclosed how stablecoin payouts would work alongside existing payment methods.

Stablecoins move deeper into payments

The discussions arrive as stablecoins expand beyond cryptocurrency trading. Their combined market capitalization has surpassed $300 billion, while businesses increasingly use dollar-linked tokens for settlement and cross-border transfers.

Digital assets are also already present elsewhere in Elon Musk associated businesses. SpaceX uses dollar-pegged stablecoins and Dogecoin for some cross-border Starlink customer payments in emerging markets, according to the report. X has, meanwhile, added executives with experience in blockchain products, including design chief Benji Taylor, who previously worked on the Coinbase Base network.

A potential test for mainstream stablecoin payments

The significance of the plan extends beyond the X creator economy. A large social platform using stablecoins for recurring international payouts would test whether blockchain settlement can become practical infrastructure for mainstream digital businesses rather than remain concentrated in crypto-native services.

Much still depends on execution. X would need to determine which assets and networks to support, how creators receive and convert payments, and how the system complies with different regulatory regimes. For now, the development remains an exploration rather than a confirmed product launch.
