Crypto markets rise as bitcoin holds above $81,000 and NEAR jumps on swap activity
Crypto & NEAR surge up

Risk appetite improves in Asian trading as progress in Washington-Beijing trade talks lifts regional equities and U.S. futures alongside major cryptocurrencies. Bitcoin stays above $81,000 after a recent regulatory shift on tokenized U.S. stocks, while NEAR outperforms on heavy cross-chain ZEC swap traffic.

Highlights

  • Bitcoin trades above $81,000, up less than 1% after the U.S. SEC clears onchain trading of tokenized U.S. stocks on Thursday.
  • NEAR surges 23% to above $4 as NEAR Intents facilitates cross-chain swaps, with ZEC routed volume increasing sixfold and ZEC price rising 3% to just above $1,500.
  • Broader risk-on sentiment driven by MSCI Asia Pacific's near 1% gain and 2% Brent crude drop lifts crypto prices, with expectations of increased volatility before the Fed's late-October meeting.

Token gains tied to regulation and onchain flows

As reported by CoinDesk, bitcoin trades just above $81,000 in Monday Asian morning hours, up less than 1% over the past 24 hours and extending gains after the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission clears a path for onchain trading of tokenized U.S. stocks on Thursday.

NEAR leads major tokens with a rise of about 23% to just above $4. The move is linked to NEAR Intents, a swap service on the NEAR blockchain that allows wallets to exchange tokens across different chains without users first moving funds manually between networks.

Consumer wallets including ZODL and Vizor integrate the service for ZEC swaps, and daily ZEC volume routed through the platform rises sixfold over the past week. ZEC adds 3% to just above $1,500, BNB gains 2% to nearly $777, and Ether and HYPE each rise about 2%, while XRP, DOGE, SOL and TRX post smaller gains.

Broader market sentiment supports crypto trading

Equity markets help set the tone across the Asian session, with MSCI's Asia Pacific gauge climbing nearly 1%, led by technology shares in South Korea and Taiwan. The advance follows encouraging signals from U.S.-China trade talks after U.S. officials describe the discussions as very successful ahead of a summit between Presidents Donald Trump and Xi Jinping this week.

S&P 500 futures rise less than 1% and Nasdaq 100 contracts gain slightly more, while Brent crude falls 2% to just above $101 a barrel for a fourth straight decline. Lower oil prices ease inflation concerns and support Treasury futures, reinforcing a broader risk-on backdrop for digital assets.

BTSE chief operating officer Jeff Mei says the weekend rise in bitcoin follows the SEC move on tokenized U.S. stock trading and the short squeeze that comes after it. He says the calendar is otherwise light this week aside from comments from Federal Reserve officials, and expects more volatility in the final weeks before the Fed's late-October meeting.

Our earlier coverage of U.S. crypto regulation explained how the Senate’s failure to advance the Clarity Act left long-term legal certainty unresolved, even as regulators moved quickly to offer near-term relief. We noted that the SEC introduced a five-year tokenization framework and the CFTC provided additional flexibility for crypto firms, creating workable operating conditions but with reversibility risk for longer-horizon investment and infrastructure deals.
