Highlights

  • $48 million in short liquidations and a large 52,001 ETH sell by a major wallet drove recent crypto price swings.
  • U.S. spot Ethereum ETFs drew $24.84 million in net inflows on October 14 after ten days of outflows.
  • ETH/USD is trading in a $2,375 to $2,554 range with mixed momentum signals and low volatility intraday.

Short squeeze and wallet activity introduce mixed market dynamics

Roughly $48 million in liquidations on short positions was reported, according to Investing.com, forcing market participants to cover and temporarily easing selling momentum. A major wallet holder fully closed out a 52,001 ETH position for a $24.5 million profit following a series of notable sell-offs, possibly adding to recent price swings, as reported by Lookonchain. In addition, U.S. spot Ethereum ETFs experienced $24.84 million in net inflows on October 14 after a 10-day streak of outflows, signaling renewed institutional interest according to Finance Biggo. These developments contributed to mixed market dynamics with shallow day-to-day moves.

Mixed technical signals as ETH hovers mid-range with low volatility

ETH/USD is currently above the MA-20 and MA-50 on the hourly chart and well above the MA-200 on the daily timeframe. The Ichimoku Kijun, set at $2,513, is acting as immediate support. Momentum signals are mixed: MACD prints a Sell, while ADX is Neutral. As of this update, RSI stands at 48.03 (Sell), CCI is also at Sell, and Stochastic RSI is Neutral. Bull/Bear Power shows buyers dominating intraday, although overall price dynamics remain subdued with the Awesome Oscillator in a Neutral state. ETH/USD is trading in the middle of its recent range, confirming low volatility and limited directional conviction.

Range-bound action likely amid higher downside probability

Short term, ETH/USD is likely to remain in a sideways band, with support at $2,513 and resistance at $2,554. The expected intraday volatility band is $2,375 to $2,554. Statistical probability skews toward a 55% chance of a downside move versus 45% for upside. Baseline scenario anticipates range-bound conditions unless a breakout triggers a move toward the noted resistance or support levels.

Viktoras Karapetjanc, expert at Traders Union, sees a period of stabilization for Ethereum as recent inflows into U.S. spot ETFs suggest institutional capital is returning. He notes market sentiment is shifting, although technicals remain balanced and short-term volatility is subdued. Macro and fundamental signals point to building confidence, even as downside risks are present. "If $2,513 holds as support, I expect range trading to persist, but improving sentiment leaves ETH well positioned to benefit from any renewed momentum," he says.

Earlier, analysts noted that while Ethereum had shown signs of improving capital flows, a sustained move higher would require stronger confirmation from both technical and ETF inflow perspectives. The latest data reinforce the prevailing wait-and-see approach, with short-term price action poised for continued range-bound trading unless a decisive breakout occurs beyond $2,554 or below $2,375.
