Vietnam launches National Blockchain Data Center to secure sensitive information
Vietnam is establishing a National Data Center (NDC) powered by blockchain technology to protect and authenticate sensitive data.
According to The Korean Herald, traditional centralized databases in Vietnam have faced issues like security vulnerabilities, limited resources, and interoperability challenges with international systems — prompting authorities to embrace blockchain as a solution.
The government has unveiled NDAChain, a nationwide blockchain platform designed to secure and authenticate data across public and private services. Developed by the National Data Association, NDAChain supports services like digital identity (NDA DID) and product traceability (NDA Trace). The system is expected to be integrated nationwide by 2026 using a public-private hybrid model.
The initiative is led by the Center for Data Innovation and Utilization under the Ministry of Public Security's National Data Center. NDAChain will collect and verify records in areas such as e-government, finance, healthcare, supply chains, and education. Officials describe it as the first nationwide blockchain infrastructure in Vietnam for cross-sector data certification.
Each record is cryptographically protected and distributed across multiple nodes, ensuring tamper-proof tracking to its origin.
“Vietnam has chosen a hybrid data architecture that combines centralized and decentralized components,” said Nguyen Huy, Head of Technology at the National Data Association.
With a population exceeding 100 million and a rapidly growing digital market, Vietnam generates a massive volume of data daily. The NDC aims to centralize everything — from census data to patient records — in a unified secure system. The blockchain ledger allows for simple verification of any data modification during transmission.
How NDAChain works
NDAChain runs on a first-layer exclusive network using Proof-of-Authority consensus.
It includes 49 validator nodes operated by public bodies and major corporations such as the National Data Center, Ministry of Public Security, SunGroup, Zalo, Masan, MISA, Sovico, and VNVC.
Smart contracts automate tasks; identity checks link with VNeID; zero-knowledge proofs ensure extra privacy.
The network handles up to 3,600 transactions per second with minimal latency.
NDA DID enables fast identity authentication for contracts or service access via the NDAKey app, reducing fraud risks.
NDA Trace gives each product a unique ID compliant with GS1 global standards, helping exporters join global supply chains and allowing end users to track product origins.
By late 2025, full integration of NDAChain into the NDC infrastructure is expected.
In 2026, implementation will expand to provincial governments and universities, including blockchain education programs and international partnerships.
Future modules may include digital notarization, anti-counterfeit systems, and more. NDAChain’s open architecture enables startups and tech firms to build wallets, dashboards, and other blockchain-powered apps.
With NDAChain, Vietnam joins over 50 countries building national blockchain networks — including China’s BSN, the EU’s EBSI, and South Korea’s Klaytn.
