Crypto stocks seen rebounding after Binance hack triggers selloff
Crypto stocks rebound outlook

A sharp crypto market selloff after the $6.3 billion Binance hack is prompting several Wall Street analysts to frame the decline as a buying opportunity rather than a lasting industry setback. The view rests on rapid action to freeze about $3 billion of stolen assets and on expectations that Binance has enough liquidity to absorb customer losses.

Highlights

  • Crypto stocks like Coinbase, Robinhood and Strategy fell 9–12% after the Binance hack, but analysts anticipate a rebound as panic subsides.
  • Binance reports over $3 billion in stolen assets frozen by Tether, Circle and Ripple, while holding $1.2 billion in excess USDT and bitcoin each, plus $1.5 billion in USDC reserves.
  • Compass Point warns post-hack fallout could pressure stablecoin supply and shift trading to competitors like Coinbase, Bullish and decentralized platforms such as Hyperliquid.

Analysts back dip-buying after security breach

As reported by CoinDesk, analysts at Cantor Fitzgerald, TD Cowen and Compass Point say the breach is serious for Binance but does not appear to threaten the broader crypto market. Their Friday research notes argue the attack is tied to weaknesses in Binance's security setup rather than to bitcoin or the underlying architecture of major cryptocurrencies.

Cantor Fitzgerald analyst Ramsey El-Assal says the industry's response shows how the market is adapting to large-scale hacks. Tether freezes more than $1.5 billion in stolen assets, Circle blocks another $800 million and Ripple freezes roughly $200 million, helping bring the total value of frozen funds to about $3 billion, according to Binance.

El-Assal expects crypto-linked stocks such as Coinbase, Robinhood and Strategy to recover after the initial panic fades. Shares of Coinbase and Strategy fall 12% on Friday, while Robinhood drops about 9%, reflecting the broader risk-off mood across the market.

TD Cowen analyst Lance Vitanza also argues the selloff creates an opening for investors to add exposure to bitcoin and to companies that hold the token on their balance sheets. He says the attack appears to target Binance's transaction-signing infrastructure, not the Bitcoin network itself, drawing a distinction between exchange-level security failures and the core technology behind digital assets.

Liquidity cushion and market share shifts in focus

Compass Point analysts Ed Engel and Michael Donovan say Binance likely has enough resources to make customers whole. They cite reported holdings that include $1.2 billion in excess USDT reserves, about $1.2 billion in bitcoin reserves and more than $1.5 billion in USDC treasury assets.

Even so, the firm warns that the fallout may still pressure parts of the crypto ecosystem. Compass Point expects strain on stablecoin supply as Binance reimburses customers and says withdrawals from decentralized lending platforms could accelerate once markets reopen.

The disruption could also redirect trading activity toward Binance competitors, including Coinbase and Bullish, as well as decentralized platforms such as Hyperliquid, where users keep control of their assets instead of transferring custody to an exchange. For bitcoin, Compass Point says the $75,000 to $77,000 range is a key level, with a break below that band potentially threatening the recent rally.

In our earlier coverage of CTOS Digital's cybersecurity incident, we noted that the breach and resulting service disruption could weigh on earnings and customer confidence beyond the immediate recovery period. Analysts downgraded the stock and cut target prices as the company estimated the incident would reduce net profit by RM12 million and revenue by RM16 million, with further downside risk if disruptions lasted longer.
