Tokenized real-world assets expand as stablecoin usage outpaces supply in 2026
Tokenized assets surge in 2026

Digital asset activity in 2026 is shifting from new token issuance toward heavier use of existing balances, even as stablecoin supply remains broadly flat. At the same time, tokenized real-world assets continue to expand, with Asia emerging as a key settlement corridor despite limited local-currency stablecoin issuance.

Highlights

  • Stablecoin market cap grows 1.0% to $306 billion by September 2026, but monthly transfer volume jumps 41.4% to $2.33 trillion, indicating faster usage growth than supply.
  • Newer issuers like USD1, USDG, PYUSD, and RLUSD collectively form 4.1% of market supply, intensifying competition through distribution, banking connectivity, and redemption rather than scale.
  • Tokenized real-world assets increase 51% to $38.6 billion, led by U.S. Treasury debt at $14.7 billion, while Asia builds settlement infrastructure despite a 2026 regional value decline.

Transfer growth and asset expansion in 2026

As reported by CoinDesk, stablecoin market capitalization rises just 1.0% to $306 billion through September, while adjusted monthly transfer volume climbs 41.4%, indicating that usage is increasing faster than supply.

Transaction volume reaches $2.33 trillion, up 48.6% year over year, driven mainly by more active use of existing balances rather than fresh issuance. U.S. dollar-denominated tokens still dominate the market, accounting for 99.5% of supply, while USDT and USDC together hold 84.6%.

Newer issuers including USD1, USDG, PYUSD and RLUSD account for 4.1% of supply and are competing through distribution, banking access and redemption capabilities. That points to a more segmented market structure, with issuers targeting different use cases rather than challenging incumbents purely on scale.

Asia settlement role grows despite low local issuance

APAC-to-APAC transfers total $55.7 billion, representing 50.8% of tracked corridor volume, showing that Asia carries a large share of stablecoin flows even though regional issuance remains limited. APAC local-currency stablecoins total only $261 million, or about 0.09% of global supply, meaning most regional activity still runs on dollar-based tokens.

Tokenized real-world assets rise 51% to $38.6 billion, led by U.S. Treasury debt at $14.7 billion. The first monthly contraction in September, a $417 million decline, comes from government debt, while tokenized stocks grow from $678 million to $3.19 billion and active strategies continue to expand.

Asia-issued real-world asset value declines in 2026, but regional regulators are still building settlement infrastructure. Examples include Hong Kong's HK$20 billion digital green bond, Singapore's Project Guardian and Korea's planned on-chain securities registries from February 2027, suggesting settlement adoption rather than local issuance is likely to determine whether Asia becomes the sector's hub.
