Donald Trump Jr. strengthens position in prediction markets by investing in leading crypto platform Polymarket.

According to an Axios report, Donald Trump Jr.’s venture firm 1789 Capital invested “tens of millions of dollars” into Polymarket. As Benzinga reported, negotiations between Polymarket and 1789 Capital began 18 months ago, but the investment was delayed until greater regulatory clarity was achieved.

Polymarket, a crypto prediction platform founded in 2020 by Shayne Coplan, allows users to trade on the outcomes of real-world events using USDC on the Polygon blockchain. Since 2022, the company has restricted access for U.S. users after enforcement actions and a settlement with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).

The conclusion in July 2025 of investigations by the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the CFTC into Polymarket—without further charges—removed a major obstacle to its U.S. return. Shortly after, the company acquired QCEX, a CFTC-licensed derivatives exchange, for $112 million. Polymarket stated the acquisition paves the way for a regulated re-entry into the American market.

Balancing two roles

Trump Jr. joined 1789 Capital as a partner in late 2024. He is not a member of the firm’s investment committee, which limits his direct involvement in asset allocation decisions. However, he will join Polymarket’s advisory board.

According to Trump Jr., prediction markets “overcome the influence of the media and so-called expert opinions,” allowing people to place bets based on their genuine expectations of world events.

Previously, 1789 Capital founder Omeed Malik described Polymarket as operating “at the intersection of free speech and financial innovation.”Polymarket founder Shayne Coplan said the firm’s stake would help strengthen Polymarket’s role as “a reliable source of free, transparent, and accurate market information.”

Notably, Trump Jr. already serves as a strategic adviser to Kalshi, a competing prediction platform. Reports suggest he will retain this role, further strengthening his influence in a niche yet rapidly growing market.
