Highlights

  • The Bank of Japan raised rates but did not offer an explicitly hawkish outlook, reducing expectations for further tightening.
  • Market participants reassessed the Yen's immediate yield advantage, leading to mild selling pressure and shaping pair dynamics.
  • AUD/JPY trades below key moving averages and remains in a short- to long-term bearish trend, with the expected range at ¥110.82 to ¥111.94 over the next 2 to 3 days.

Yen pressured as BOJ's stance tempers further tightening bets

The Bank of Japan's recent rate hike failed to deliver an explicitly hawkish policy outlook, according to Fxstreet. This stance tempered market expectations for further monetary tightening in Japan, resulting in modest selling pressure on the Yen as investors reassessed its near-term yield advantage. Consequently, the currency pair's dynamic has been shaped by central bank policy signals amid overall quiet news flow.

Oversold readings and seller momentum as price holds below resistance

On the technical front, AUD/JPY is trading below the MA-20 and MA-50 on the H1 chart, as well as under the daily MA-200. The Ichimoku Kijun sits at ¥111.75, presenting immediate resistance. Oscillator signals are notable, with RSI at 28.48, Stoch RSI, and CCI all indicating oversold conditions. Momentum indicators such as MACD remain on Sell, ADX is Neutral, and Bull/Bear Power highlights intraday seller dominance, confirmed by the negative stance of the Awesome Oscillator.

Downside risk elevated as bullish breakout odds remain limited

In the short term, AUD/JPY is likely to consolidate within a volatility band of ¥110.82 to ¥111.94 over the next 2–3 trading days. The probability of an upward move is limited at 24%, with downside risk remaining more prominent. A break above ¥111.75 would open the door to renewed gains, while sustained trading below ¥110.82 could reinforce downside momentum and extend losses.

Anton Kharitonov, expert at Traders Union, notes that AUD/JPY remains under pressure as weak technical readings align with a lack of sustained Yen strength. He believes the Bank of Japan’s cautious policy tone has limited support for the Yen, thereby shaping current sentiment. Downside momentum appears dominant unless ¥111.75 is reclaimed. "As long as AUD/JPY stays below key resistance, my outlook remains defensive with a bias toward further weakness," he says.

Earlier, analysts noted that AUD/JPY was caught between mixed technical momentum and key resistance levels, suggesting a tentative outlook. The current setup reinforces the prevailing downside risk, with immediate attention on sustained price action below ¥110.82 as a signal for further losses.
